Sofia, January 2 (BTA) - Julian Rachlin will conduct the first concert of the Sofia Philharmonic in 2022 at Bulgaria Hall on January 6, the Philharmonic said.

The programme features Joseph Haydn's Symphony No. 104 (the London Symphony) and Alexander Glazunov's "The seasons".

Rachlin, who is also a violinist and violist, was born on December 8 1974 in Vilnius to a family of musicians. In 1978 the family emigrated to Austria. Rachlin graduated from the Konservatorium Wien in the class of Boris Kuschnir and took lessons with Pinchas Zukermann. After winning the Eurovision Young Musician of the Year Award in Amsterdam in 1988, he became the youngest ever soloist of the Vienna Philharmonic debuting under the baton of Riccardo Muti.

Rachlin has performed with the leading world orchestras under the baton of Lorin Maazel, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Bernard Haitink, Mariss Jansons,
James Levine, Nevill Marriner, Zubin Mehta, Yehudi Menuhin, Roger Norrington, Krzysztof Penderecki, Andre Previn, Mstislav Rostropovich and Esa Pekka Salonen.

He has collaborated with Martha Argerich, Natalia Gutman, Yefim Bronfman, Gidon Kremer, Yuri Bashmet, Maxim Vengerov, Mischa Maisky, Lang Lang, Janine Jansen,

Rachlin is a UNICEF Goodwil Ambassador and is involved with education and charity. PP
