Registered Unemployment
Remains Record Low
in November

Sofia, December 15 (BTA) - The registered unemployment rate again remained record low at 4.8 per cent in November, the Employment Agency said on Wednesday. It was down by 1.9 percentage points year on year and 1 percentage point down on end-November 2019 - the year when employment was record high.

The registered jobless people at the end of November were 158,247, up by 2,984 on October, and down 27.7 per cent (60,593 fewer people) on November 2020.The job offices registered a further 24,650 unemployed people in November 2021, 682 fewer than in October and 4,455 fewer than in November 2020.

Also in November, 13,131 jobless people started work. They were 2,188 fewer than in October and 4,212 fewer than a year earlier, which reflects a decrease both in labour demand in winter and in the number of registered unemployed.

A total of 75.5 per cent of those who started work in November found jobs in the real economy. Of them, 22.4 per cent started work in manufacturing, 18.1 per cent in trade, 6.7 per cent in hotels and restaurants, 5.6 per cent in general government, 5.3 per cent in construction, and 4.5 per cent in administrative and support service activities, among others.

A total of 3,217 jobless people from at-risk groups were employed in subsidized jobs: 261 under employment programmes and measures and 2,956 under schemes of Operational Programme Human Resources Development. So far the Employment for You scheme, which was launched under that programme in October 2020 as an anti-crisis measure, has provided jobs to slightly more than 41,000 people. In November alone, 2,190 jobless people were employed under it.

The vacancies advertised in the primary labour market in November were 10,109, down by 1,646 on October and also down by 2,277 on a year earlier, which is typical of the autumn and winter. Vacancies in the real economy were most numerous in manufacturing (30.3 per cent), followed by wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (13.6 per cent), administrative and support service activities (10.5 per cent), hotels and restaurants (9.7 per cent), general government (7.5 per cent) and education (5.1 per cent).
