Income Inequality Increases in
14 EU Member States,
Including Bulgaria


Sofia, December 8 (BTA) - Income inequality has increased in most EU Member States in the last decade, according to a European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) report, quoted by the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions of Bulgaria on Wednesday.

Between 2010 and 2019, income inequality has increased in 14 EU Member States, most significantly in Hungary, Spain and Belgium, Bulgaria, Estonia and Italy, data shows.

According to the study, Bulgaria is still among the EU Member States with biggest pay gaps. Bulgaria remains the poorest state in the EU, having the worst economic indicators, compared to the rest of the EU.

In 2019, Bulgaria's per capita GDP was nearly five times lower than Luxembourg's, which is the richest EU Member State. The average per capita GDP in the EU twice exceeds that in Bulgaria, the ETUC report says. LN/KK
