Referring to the new SARS-CoV-2 variant identified in South Africa, Bulgarian Health Minister Stoycho Katsarov told a news conference on Friday that nationals of the Republic of South Africa are barred from entering Bulgaria at this point. Bulgarian citizens arriving from South Africa will be required to self-isolate for 14 days and take a coronavirus test at the end of that period. If they test positive, the sample will be analyzed for a presence of the new variant. The Health Minister argued that these measures are completely adequate and new ones will be introduced if the situation changes.

Prof. Mira Kozhuharova said at the same news conference that the infection rate curve is diving at this point. Of all persons subject to vaccination in this country, over 28 per cent have been inoculated by Thursday, the epidemiologist reported. RY, DS/MY, LG
