COVID-19 Update: 2,602 New Cases Confirmed, Test Positivity Rate at 17.27%

Sofia, January 31 (BTA) - The Bulgarian healthcare authorities confirmed 2,602 new cases of COVID-19 in the country on Sunday, January 30, after 15,061 tests, according to data posted on https://coronavirus.bg/ on Monday. The test positivity rate for the day was 17.27 per cent.

The active cases are 239,320. Currently, the hospitalized patients number 5,730, including 506 in intensive care. There were 210 new hospital admissions, 85.71 per cent of them involving unvaccinated persons.

Another 2,198 patients recovered from COVID-19, adding up to a total of 669,334 recovered for the entire pandemic.

Thirty-nine new fatalities were reported (92.31 per cent unvaccinated), bringing the death toll to 33,160.

With 1,901 new inoculations on Sunday, 4,157,520 vaccine doses against COVID-19 have been administered so far.

The number of new infections was largest in Sofia (764), followed by Varna (364), Burgas (228), Stara Zagora (220) and Plovdiv (197).

The National Centre for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases said that it tested 234 samples of SARS-CoV-2 and 55.1 per cent were found to be Omicron. 44.9 were Delta or subvariants. Omicron was found in 14 of the country's 28 regions.

Nine of the tested samples also showed the H3N2 flu virus. One showed co-infection of H3N2 and SARS-CoV-2. It was the first lab-proved co-infection in Bulgaria this season. LN///
