COVID-19 Update: 12,399 New Cases, Test Positivity Rate at 28.2%

Sofia, January 26 (BTA) - The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Bulgaria reached 903,676, after 43,981 tests identified 12,399 new infections on Tuesday, 76 per cent of which were of unvaccinated persons, according to data posted on https://coronavirus.bg/. The test positivity rate now stands at 28.2 per cent.

Sofia City Region tops the list of new cases with 3,199 positive tests, followed by Plovdiv with 1,236 cases and Burgas with 1,151.

The active cases are 217,129. Currently, the hospitalized patients number 5,347, including 523 in intensive care. Of the 692 new hospital admissions, 83 per cent were not vaccinated.

The infected medical staff have reached 19,846, with 155 new cases detected since Monday.

Another 2,688 COVID-19 patients have recovered over the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 653,678.

Seventy-three fatalities were reported (83.6 per cent unvaccinated), and the death toll now adds up to 32,869.

With 10,667 new inoculations over the last 24 hours, 4,114,896 vaccine doses have been administered so far, 1,974,198 people are fully vaccinated, and 580,808 have received a booster jab.

Data of the National Centre for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases show the two-week infection rate in Bulgaria currently stands at 1,582 per 100,000 population.
