Prosecutor General Geshev Meets with Turkish Counterpart

January 24 (BTA) - A Bulgarian delegation led by Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev was received in Ankara by Bekir Sahin, Chief Public Prosecutor at Turkey's Court of Cassation, and Mehmet Akarca, First President of the Court of Cassation, the Prosecution of the Republic of Bulgaria reported on Monday. The official visit is taking place at Sahin's invitation.


The Bulgarian delegation includes Deputy Prosecutor General and Supreme Administrative Prosecution Office President Dessislava Pironeva, and the Prosecutor General's Spokesperson Siika Mileva. On the Turkish side, the meetings held so far were also attended by Deputy Chief Public Prosecutor Ridvan Gundogdu and Senior Prosecutor Responsible for International Relations Ilknur Altuntas, among other prosecutors.

The sides expressed their shared appreciation of the high level of trust and the good cooperation between the prosecution services of the two neighbouring countries. They discussed matters of bilateral interest, stressing the contribution of Turkey and Bulgaria to curbing illegal migration in the region. The two delegations also looked at other aspects of legal cooperation such as countering transborder organized crime and terrorism.

Geshev and Sahin gave high marks for a joint initiative called Working Forum of the General Prosecutors of the Balkan States, whose second installment was held in Sofia in 2021. VE
