Joint Meeting of Sofia, Skopje Governments: What Is Planned

Sofia, January 24 (BTA) - The governments of Bulgaria and North Macedonia will be holding a joint meeting on January 25 at the Boyana Residence near Sofia. Following is what is planned, as reported by the Bulgarian government press office Monday.

As part of the meeting, Prime Ministers Kiril Petkov and Dimitar Kovacevski will have a one-on-one session. Then there will be introductory and proper plenary meetings of the two official government delegations. Simultaneous sessions will be held of four working groups, which have been established in the areas of economy, trade and innovation; infrastructure, connectivity and transport; European cooperation - green transition and digital transformation, and the rule of law; culture, research and education and youth.

The co-chairpersons of the joint multidisciplinary commission on history and education will also be meeting.

At the end of the day, the two governments will sign bilateral documents and the Prime Ministers will hold a joint news conference.   

Press releases by the President's Office and Parliament made it clear that Dimitar Kovacevski will also be received by President Rumen Radev and will meet with National Assembly Chair Nikola Minchev.

The joint meeting of the governments will be the second major event in bilateral relations within a single week, the government press office says. "Following the January 18 visit to Skopje by Prime Minister Kiril Petkov, the Tuesday meetings will make yet another key step towards establishing the new dialogue between Bulgaria and the Republic of North Macedonia. After the formation of the working groups on Bulgarian side by Prime Minister Petkov's order, the sectoral meetings on Tuesday will add pragmatism in the bilateral talks," the press office also says. It adds that sectoral groups will work hard in the coming months, will achieve results of shared interest and will raise awareness of the benefits of the enhanced cooperation for the citizens of the two countries.
