COVID-19 Update: 9,874 New Cases, Test Positivity Rate at 22.5%

Sofia, January 22 (BTA) - The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Bulgaria reached 870,751, after 43,879 tests identified 9,874 new infections on Friday, 78.2 per cent of which were of unvaccinated persons, according to data posted on https://coronavirus.bg/. The test positivity rate now stands at 22.5 per cent.

Sofia tops the list of new cases with 2,873 positive tests, followed by Plovdiv with 1,084 cases and Varna with 636.

The active cases are 195,629. Currently, the hospitalized patients number 5,164, including 547 in intensive care. Of the 615 hospital admissions, 84.2 per cent were not vaccinated.

The infected medical staff have reached 19,429.

Another 1,924 COVID-19 patients have recovered over the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 642,518.

Eighty-six fatalities were reported (94.2 per cent unvaccinated), and the death toll now adds up to 32,604.

With 13,541 new inoculations over the last 24 hours, 4,091,684 vaccine doses have been administered so far, 1,975,203 people are fully vaccinated, and 565,282 have received a booster jab.
