Electricity Production, Consumption Up in January-September 2017, Year on Year

Sofia, September 12 (BTA) - Between January 1 and September 10, 2017 Bulgaria produced 31,361,720 MWh of electricity, 3.36 per cent more than the 30,343,383 MWh produced during the comparable period of 2016, according to figures released by the Electricity System Operator (ESO AD).

Electricity consumption increased as well - by 5.82 per cent, from 25,919,269 MWh in the nine-month period of 2016 to 27,427,968 MWh a year later.

Electricity export decreased by 11.08 per cent, year on year.

The electricity generated by biomass-fueled power plants connected to the transmission network grew by 64.81 per cent compared to a year earlier.

The share of electricity from renewable energy sources increased by 10.01 per cent in the transmission network and by 3.44 per cent in the distribution networks.

Electricity production by hydroelectric power stations dropped by 28.33 per cent during the period under review.
