Association of Syrian Migrants Slams President Trump's Travel Ban
Sofia, February 2 (BTA) - At a news conference in Sofia Thursday, the Association of Syrian Refugees in Bulgaria and the Al-Sham organization slammed the travel ban for citizens of seven predominantly Muslim countries recently introduced by President Donald Trump.
They said it remains unclear what exactly stands behind Trump's America First policy.
"America is not going to become any stronger or safer with the ban on refugee entry," said the two organizations adding that refugees are victims of terrorism and are fleeing war.
They warned of the risk from speech of hate, xenophobia and discrimination in the US. "We hope for things to change so that the US can remain the land of freedom and dreams where anybody can be successful," they said.
Syrian Mohamed Yousef said that what is happening is dangerous for the US itself. The American society is divided and what Trump is doing must be stopped, he added.
A policy that sets religious and cultures against one another is the most dangerous thing that can happen nowadays, he said.
He argued that what politicians should do instead is explain to people that terrorism has no ethnicity.
