Sofia, January 28 (BTA) - European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker has sent an official letter to Boyko Borissov, who stepped down as Prime Minister of Bulgaria on Friday. Juncker thanked Borissov for the excellent partnership over the last few years, the press office of the GERB party said.

He called for a continuation of the reforms started by Borissov's government. He wrote that during the term of the former Prime Minister Bulgaria was a partner that could be trusted to follow the initiatives figuring on the European agenda, such as the implementation of the investment plan for Europe, the establishment of the European Border and Coast Guard and the Energy Union.

Juncker noted that 2017 is the 10th anniversary of Bulgaria's accession to the European Union. He also pointed out that the country is preparing to take over the rotating EU Council Presidency in the first half of 2018. He expressed hope that at this crucial time Bulgaria will keep working on what has been started, will complete its reforms, making them irreversible, and will work together with the EU for a shared European future.
