Outgoing Prime Minister Encourages Successor to Order Audit at Government Departments
Sofia, January 27 (BTA) - Stepping down officially as Bulgaria's Prime Minister on Friday, Boyko Borissov encouraged the new caretaker government to audit the work of all ministries. "I hope you carry out not just an audit, I urge you to dig deeply into everything there is in the ministries in order to stop any speculation on the matter," Borissov said at the official ceremony marking the handover of the reins of government to the caretaker cabinet of Prime Minister Ognyan Gerdjikov.
Borissov recommended: "If you find anything that worries you, make sure it is referred to the prosecution service." He wished success to the interim government, noting that "to run a country may seem easy to an outsider, but now you can see for yourselves how difficult it is."
Gerdjikov confirmed that the ministries will undergo a comprehensive audit. "You have just asked for an in-depth audit and I am not going to disappoint you. We will do it in the hope that there are not many bad things to uncover," Gerdjikov said. "But if something does come up, we will have to do what the laws of this country require," he added.
Gerdjikov praised the performance of the Borissov 2 cabinet and pledged to build on its accomplishments.
