EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Mogherini Visits Bulgaria

Sofia, July 23 (BTA) - EU High Representative for Foreign
Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini opened a visit to
  Bulgaria on Thursday.

The migration pressure and the situation in Greece featured on
the agenda of her talks with Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, the
Government Information Service said on Thursday.

"Bulgaria is among the worst affected countries by the migration
pressure and, in the conditions of an increasing migration
flow, we prove that we successfully guard the external border of
the EU," Borissov said at his meeting with Mogherini. The
Prime  Minister noted that the accession of Bulgaria and Romania
to  the Schengen Area will be a clear signal about the EU in
the  fight against terrorism and illegal migration. "We should
not  allow a crack in security at any border or on the territory
of  any of the EU Member States," he added. Borissov noted the
importance of having a uniform EU foreign and security policy.

The Prime Minister noted that maintaining financial stability
and reasonable budget policy are the right choice and this has
been confirmed by the situation in Greece.

He familiarized the guest with the additional revenues to the
budget as a result of the actions undertaken to curtail
corruption and smuggling.

Mogherini and Interior Minister Roumyana Buchvarova visited the
refugee accommodation centre in Sofia's Vrazhdebna residential
area, the Interior Ministry said in a press release. The centre
has capacity for 400 people and currently accommodates 201
foreign nationals mostly from Afghanistan. In January-June 2015,
the migration pressure increased 4.5-fold compared to the same
period of 2014. State Agency for Refugees Chairman Nikola
Kazakov said that the agency's centres are filled to 75 per
cent. Most asylum seekers in Bulgaria are nationals of Syria,
Afghanistan and Iraq, the press release reads.
