Socialists Challenge Nomination Procedure for Central Bank Governor
Sofia, July 1 (BTA) - The Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) has
collected 71 MPs' signatures supporting a petition to the
Constitutional Court against the nomination procedure for
Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) governor, BSP-Left Bulgaria
Coalition Deputy Floor Leader Kornelia Ninova said on Wednesday.
The petition, which is to be submitted later on Wednesday,
claims that individual MPs should have been allowed to propose
candidates for governor of the central bank. This is a
constitutional right of the lawmakers, Ninova argued.
The signatories to the petition include members of BSP-Left
Bulgaria, the Patriotic Front, the Bulgarian Democratic Centre,
the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, Ataka, and independents.
The Constitutional Court judgment on the petition is not linked
to the election of the BNB governor, BSP said.
Asked whether the BSP-Left Bulgaria parliamentary group have met
with Bisser Manolov, who has been nominated by the Patriotic
Front for BNB governor, Socialist MP Zhelyo Boichev said they
have met with everyone willing to talk with them.
