Bulgaria Meets Its Interim Renewable Energy Targets, EC Progress Report Shows
Brussels, June 16 (BTA Correspondent Nikolay Jeliazkov) -
Bulgaria meets its interim renewable energy targets, shows the
European Commission renewable energy progress report presented
here on Tuesday. According to the report, EU countries are well
on the way to meeting the EU's target for 20 per cent renewable
energy in the overall energy supply by 2020.
The progress report reads that the share of renewable energy
sources in Bulgaria's energy consumption was 16 per cent in
2012, 15.1 per cent on average in 2011-2012, 19 per cent in
2013, and 11.4 per cent on average in 2013-2014. Bulgaria's
renewable energy target for 2020 is 16 per cent.
The European Commission's progress report is issued every two
years to assess Member States' progress in the promotion and use
of renewable energy in line with the binding targets set in the
Renewable Energy Directive. The directive focuses on achieving
a 20 per cent share of renewable energy in the EU overall energy
consumption by 2020, and every Member State has to reach
individual targets for their overall share of renewable energy
in energy consumption.
