788 Asylum Seekers Supposed to Be Relocated, Resettled to Bulgaria, Mostly from Greece and Italy,
Over Next Two Years
Brussels, May 27 (BTA Correspondent Nikolay Jeliazkov) -
According to a relocation and resettlement scheme for 60,000
immigrants over the next two years, presented by the European
Commission here on Wednesday, Bulgaria is supposed to receive
572 immigrants for relocation (343 from Italy, out of a total of
24,000) and 229 from Greece, out of a total of 16,000) and 216
immigrants from Syria and Eritrea for resettlement, or a total
of 788.
Replying to a question, European Commission Vice President
Kristalina Georgieva specified at a news conference on Wednesday
that the EU will budget a substantial increase of
migration-related funding for 2016.
If Bulgaria faces a sudden influx of migrants, the European
Commission may propose a new distribution key, EU Home Affairs
and Citizenship Commissioner Dimitris
Avramopoulos told a news conference, taking a question. The
Commission may propose to the rest of the Member States to share
part of that burden.
