Bulgarian Food Safety Agency Head Mollov Removed from Office

Sofia, May 23 (BTA) - Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA)
Executive Director Plamen Mollov was removed from office on
Friday by Prime Minister Boyko Borissov on the proposal of
Agriculture and Food Minister Dessislava Taneva, the Ministry of
Agriculture said in a press release. Borissov appointed Dr
Damyan Iliev BFSA head again following a proposal of Minister
Taneva.

The management of a food company complained to the news media
Thursday of harassment by the authorities after refusing to pay
protection racket. The owner of the Aladin Foods chain of doner
and pizza takeaways, Aladin Harfan, said the pressure from the
BFSA started last year when he refused to pay 10,000 euro
monthly protection racket.

Following the Aladin Foods news conference, Mollov said that the
company has made it into their list of highest-risk producers.
He showed a snapshot made during a BFSA
check at Aladin Foods' chicken processing plant in the southern
town of Suedinenie on March 20, 2014, showing white worms in the
doner meat.
