Agriculture Ministry Donates Firefighting Equipment to  Bulgarian Monastery on Mount Athos

Sofia, May 6 (BTA) - Deputy Agriculture and Food Minister Georgi
Kostov delivered firefighting equipment to the Bulgarian
monastery St George the Zograf on Mount Athos, his Ministry told
BTA Wednesday. The donation includes a fire truck, protective
clothing, motor chainsaws and other firefighting equipment.

Forest fires often occur on the peninsula and the area around
the monastery. The only Bulgarian Orthodox monastery on Mount
Athos was endangered by a big fire in 2012, which was put out
with the participation of firefighters from Blagoevgrad
(Southwestern Bulgaria) and employees of the Southwest State
Enterprise - Blagoevgrad.

The St George the Zograf monastery is one of the biggest on
Mount Athos. It preserves historical and cultural heritage which
is invaluable for Bulgaria and world culture.
