Prince Kardam Dies at Age 52
Sofia, April 7 (BTA) - Prince Kardam, the eldest son of
Bulgaria's former king and former prime minister Simeon
Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, died in Madrid's Sanchinarro Hospital on
Tuesday at the age of 52, Saxe-Coburg-Gotha's office reported.
The death was caused by lung infection resulting from years of
immobility. In 2008 Kardam had a serious car accident and was
unable to recover.
Simeon Saxe-Coburg-Gotha was the last king of Bulgaria
(1943-1946) before the country was proclaimed a republic.
Decades later he became prime minister after the SNM movement
founded by him won the parliamentary elections in 2001, and
served at this post until 2005.
