UNESCO Signs Cooperation Agreement with Bulgarian News  Agency

Paris, March 17 (BTA) - The UN Educational, Scientific and
Cultural Organization and the Bulgarian News Agency signed here
Tuesday an agreement on cooperation for joint projects to
enhance the distribution of information and popularize the
priorities and activities of UNESCO. The document was signed by
UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova and BTA Director General
Maxim Minchev.

"We are happy that a major news agency will be UNESCO's partner
in communications, will help it reach its audience and improve
its awareness," said Bokova. She added that it is an important
part of the UNESCO efforts to mobilize its partners in society
and the news media to achieve its strategic goals.

BTA Director General Minchev expressed satisfaction with the
agreement and said the BTA is proud to be the first Bulgarian
news provider to become UNESCO's partner on a par with major
news agencies including the Associated Press, the BBC, Reuters,
Xinhua and RIA Novisty.

BTA is ready to start an initiative for popularizing the
Bulgarian cultural and historical heritage and events that will
mark the 70th anniversary of UNESCO and the 60th anniversary of
Bulgaria's accession to the organization in 2016.

Founded in 1898, BTA is the prime source of reliable information
for the electronic and print media in Bulgaria.
