Sofia Condemns Murder
of Russian Opposition
Politician Boris Nemtsov

Sofia, February 28 (BTA) - Bulgarian politicians Saturday
condemned the murder of Russian opposition leader and former
deputy prime minister Boris Nemtsov.

President Rosen Plevneliev told journalists that the whole
democratic world suffers from the impudent murder of Nemtsov. He
was approached for comment in Bansko (Southwestern Bulgaria).
"We are concerned because it is not normal for the confrontation
between the opposition and the incumbents in a country to
become so sharp as to lead to this," he said. Plevneliev noted
that Bulgaria is carefully following the development of the case
and he expressed the hope that the perpetrators will be found
quickly and punished with legal means.

He went on to say that Russia needs pluralism and differing
opinions. "We love and respect the Russia of culture, talent,
orthodoxy, the Russia which liberated us. We are concerned by
the Russia where the rule of law is not observed and the Russia
which annexes foreign territories. We believe, however, that
Russia will show its power and the rule of law, and one of the
proofs for this will the uncovery of those who committed this
murder," Plevneliev said.

GERB came out with a position reading that the party strongly
condemns Nemtsov's murder and expresses condolences to the
relatives of the Russian politician.

"With his activity as MP in the Russian Duma, minister and
deputy prime minister in the 1990s, Nemstov was an important
part of the Russian Federation's development after the
dissolution of the Soviet Union. Subsequently, as a public
figure he had a key role in strengthening the democracy and
pluralism in his country. Therefore, the murder of Boris Nemtsov
in the centre of Moscow causes serious concern," the position
reads. The party expresses the hope that all the necessary
measures will be taken immediately so as to find the
perpetrators and instigators of the serious crime.
