Report: Government Not at Risk of Being Unable to Function Normally
Sofia, February 8 (BTA) - The government is not at risk of being
unable to function normally, and if the trend persists, the
cabinet of Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, which took office last
November, will considerably improve its chances of serving out
its four-year term of office, the Institute of Right-Wing Policy
(IRWP) said in its monthly report which was made available to
BTA on Sunday.
IRWP's Neno Dimov said that the new cabinet behaves adequately,
and stability is its main priority. "This is a sign that the
government does not underestimate the complicated domestic and
foreign policy situation," Dimov said.
The strongest message issued by the ruling GERB party over the
last month was a programme to rehabilitate residential prefab
concrete buildings. In addition to being an energy efficiency
measure, the rehabilitation of such buildings could kick-start
the construction industry, reduce unemployment and boost
incomes, Dimov said.
The shock which the Bulgarian Socialist Party sustained after
two consecutive losses in the European and national
parliamentary elections threw the party out of pace, IRWP said.
The Movement for Rights and Freedoms continues to show weakness
and is currently unable to interact with any other party, the
report said. With his intense manner of speaking and unrealistic
forecasts, the party leader, Lyutvi Mestan, continues to
devalue the party's influence.
As for the Reformist Bloc, its main task is to register and run
as a single entity in the upcoming local elections. If it fails
to do so, its future will be very uncertain, the researchers
said.
If the Patriotic Front stabilizes further, it may have a longer
life than expected. The ABV party shows stability, too, and the
performance of its representative in the cabinet, Labour and
Social Policy Minister Ivailo Kalfin, can be described as
successful, the report said.
The Ataka party will try to capitalize on the rise of the SYRIZA
party in Greece. Ataka Chairman Volen Siderov is expected to
heat up his anti-Jewish rhetoric, but the party's growth
potential is very limited, IRWP said.
