President Plevneliev:
'Following Days Will Be
Decisive for EU-Russia Relations'
Sofia, February 6 (BTA) - "Everyone in Munich is concerned that
we are heading towards lasting instability and deterioration of
relations between EU and Russia, which nobody wants to allow.
The next days will be decisive," Bulgarian President Rossen
Plevneliev said. He is taking part in the 51st Munich Security
Conference on February 6 and 7, the President's Press
Secretariat said.
The crisis in Eastern Ukraine and the situation in the Middle
East, provoked by the actions of Islamic State, will top the
agenda of the discussions.
"In the past 25 years, Europe has been writing history: we have
extended and strengthened our democracies. We have guaranteed
human rights and freedoms. Yet, today, we have to withstand our
values," the President also said. "We have to support every
reasonable effort for more peace and stability in the region and
the world and for restoring the supremacy of the law."
On February 7, Plevneliev will share in a debate on the conflict
in Ukraine and European security. For the first time, the
Bulgarian head of State will be the
keynote speaker at the discussion.
"Certainly, Bulgaria's principled position on the Ukraine
conflict has exerted an influence. I will reiterate it tomorrow
at this forum," Plevneliev also said. /PK/TK/
